LED Light Therapy

LED Light Therapy

LED (light-emitting diodes) therapy was developed as a treatment by NASA to counteract the effects that zero gravity has on accelerated cellular aging, and has since become widely used in clinical settings and backed by numerous studies.

During the treatment, specific wavelengths of light are used that penetrate the skin to different depths and stimulate cellular activity, which promotes renewal and repair, resulting in increased collagen synthesis, hydration, and glowy skin. The most optimal wavelength for red light is 630nm and 830 nm for near-infrared; these most effectively stimulate the cells' energy (ATP) to "reboot" the cells so they are functioning at the optional level. Their use also reduces inflammation and can improve skin conditions like acne and rosacea and hydration levels.

The LED light is similar to the light at sunrise and sunset, so it can also be helpful to balance melatonin levels and lift mood, especially in the darker months. The light is safe for the eyes, although some people prefer to use goggles for comfort.

At-home devices do not replace the professional devices as they are not as strong, but they are great for supplementing the effects and for using as part of an at-home skin care routine.

Pros

  • Non-invasive, painless, and easy to use.
  • Treats a wide range of skin types and conditions.
  • Can be used to help the activation of topical products.
  • Can be shared within a household.

Cons
  • Must be used regularly to see results, as with most things, consistency is key.
  • If you have active melasma, it's best to check with a skincare specialist or dermatologist.
  • Do not use retinol, enzymes, or any products that increase photosensitivity.

    How to

    1. Cleanse your skin thoroughly
    2. If you like, you can apply a hydrating product (see recommend) to your face and allow it to absorb into the skin completely before using the mask.
    3. Put on the mask and relax. We recommend three 20-minute sessions every week, or five 10-minute sessions weekly.
    4. Red light is beneficial for your entire body. Use your face mask to treat other areas of your body. Target body parts that are sore (back and neck), or need regeneration (hands and scalp).
    5. To clean, simply wipe with a damp cloth and non-toxic cleanser or alcohol cleaning wipe.
