The guide to Microneedling

The guide to Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure in which a pen-like device creates tiny punctures on the surface layers of the skin. It is a collagen induction therapy that can benefit and treat a wide variety of skin types and help to address many issues, including skin texture, firmness and tone; visible pores; acne scarring and pockmarks; fine lines and wrinkles; and pigmentation.

The effects are cumulative, and it has been shown to increase the collagen production by 400% in trials of 4 sessions 4 weeks apart, for up to 12 months after the treatment.

The best time to start a course of treatment is in the autumn/winter. We recommend a course of 3–5 sessions, depending on the desired results and the issues you want to address. Combining the treatment with regular use of skincare actives like retinol and vitamin C will supercharge the results.

What to expect
The treatment can be a little uncomfortable but very quick, and it is generally well tolerated by most clients. We adjust the treatment to suit each individual case. We can also treat the neck and décolleté in addition to the face. Most people experience some slight redness after the treatment, but how much is generally consistent with how sensitive your skin is. We can apply a tinted SPF cream, and most clients can go about their day regularly.

Our treatment is also combined with a hydrating, claiming sheet mask and LED treatment to have the maximum effect with the minimum redness. You may experience some tightness in the skin a few days after treatment. This is due to the regeneration process in the skin. We recommend using hydrating serums and creams to support your skin and elevate the surface dehydration.

Dos & Don'ts

  • Do not try this at home; always get treatment from qualified professionals. Skin roller devices can lead to uneven treatment and unwanted side effects.
  • Follow all aftercare advice; use SPF daily after treatment (yes, even in the winter).
  • Try and have treatment 4–6 weeks apart to reap maximum benefits.
  • What you do at home matters; consistency is key in the use of recommended products.
  • Swimming, saunas, and excessive sweating are not recommended for at least 24 hours after treatments.
