A guide to perfect summer skin

A guide to perfect summer skin

The summer brings a change in temperatures, and, combined with UV exposure, can lead to unwanted changes in your skin from dehydration to extra sensitivity and increased breakout as our skin produces more sweat and sebum. It is important to choose the right products to help repair and maintain skin health. Follow our guide for your best summer skin.

Exfoliate

The accumulation of dead skin cells can not only lead to clogged pores, breakouts, and dull skin but can also mean the body products you apply to your skin do not penetrate and hydrate properly. Sloughing away the dead skin cells will reveal a more even skin tone and a fresh and radiant complexion.

Physical exfoliation using scrubs with grains or a body brush is excellent for ingrown hairs, cellulite, and getting the lymphatic system going when combined with a quick massage before showering. You will get the best results from scrubs using minimal water; if your skin is sensitive, use more water. Always use your body brush dry before showering, and finish your shower with a cold rinse to boost circulation and tone the skin.

Enzymatic exfoliators are better if you have breakouts on areas of the body or rough areas of skin and backs of arms; they can be used daily for a more gentle exfoliation.

Repair and treatment

Body serums contain concentrated active ingredients that are often not found in body lotions, like retinoids and exfoliating acids that can target specific skin issues. They are often lighter in texture and penetrate deeper into the skin, making them perfect for warmer and more humid weather. Check out our recommendations:

Tanning

If you're looking for a sun-kissed glow but want a safe way to tan, we recommend using self-tanning products. Gradually tanners are a great way to start building a natural tan without premature aging and damaging your skin. Products have come a long way and no longer leave you with an orange hue.

Top tips for using self tanning products;

    • Exfoliate at least 24 hrs before use, but not the same day as application.
    • Apply a light moisturizer to areas like your hands, knees, elbows, and feet.
    • Always wash your hands after application.

Hydration

And lastly, don’t forget to hydrate, drink plenty of water and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize, and also reapply your SPF regularly!
